I get it: Trying to connect with others about beef and dairy products can feel impersonal & risky
(Whether you eat it or raise it. Maybe you’ve been let down before)
You’re a young mom or the food decision-maker in your home, and you have such a crazy schedule that it feels impossible to make the right call. Do you ever just feel overwhelmed by it all?
You’re already juggling
practice
Field trips
Laundry
And don’t forget about packing those lunches!
And now you have to be worried about what kind of food you feed your family too???
Oh, you’re in exactly the right place, my friend. Because same.
So that’s where I come in.
Connecting with a practicing large animal vet is always a good idea.
When you’re faced with thinking you have to go all organic and grass fed but those products bust your grocery budget or you don’t feel comfortable with what you’ve been told about or experienced with “regular” food and you aren’t sure where to go from here, that’s where this little spot of the internet goes from just another food/animal poster to treasure trove of real information.
And if you’re a cattle producer you likely feel frustrated about the lack of connection you feel with the people who are buying your product. You wish they understood how much time and devotion you put into doing things the right way and continuing to learn and grow as you do, but you feel like what you are so passionate about has been villainized to the point of disrepair.
That’s why Dr. Tera does things differently.
We’re moving the consumer connection to animal health and welfare from touchy subject to fair game topic of conversation, connecting meat and dairy animal producers with the people who eat it to take the guesswork out of what goes into creating those products.
Hi, I’m Dr. Tera Barnhardt of Animal Welfare Consulting and Research
I am a large animal veterinarian in Kansas. I work with cattle operations including, dairies and feedyards, assessing animal health needs and developing procedures and protocols that offer the best animal care possible. I help these producers operate with efficient animal health practices while also demystifying large agriculture for consumers.
I earned my DVM from Kansas State University and live my life in all things royal purple.
If I am not in a cattle pen or on stage speaking at an event you are most likely to find me at a Kstate football game with kids in tow cheering on my Wildcats with my entire wildcat family! I am also very passionate about my local community in southwest Kansas and it's future by participating in many local organizations and volunteering my time with boards and local events.
Hard work produces big results.
I have had the pleasure to work on research projects with Merck Animal Health and being featured on several occasions by Kansas Beef.
I love the opportunity to connect with others and talk all things cattle, science, and of course momlife.

“But, I hope our kids see us grinding and I think it's pretty special when dad supports mom's career and vice versa. I hope that they see that...
You can have both a family and
a career.
You can have neither.
